News Statement:

St. Paul—Today, the GOP majority in the Minnesota House passed a reinsurance bill, giving $542 million to health insurance companies. Groups are alarmed the policy would pass without provisions that ensure lower premiums for Minnesotan in the future.

“A subsidy from the GOP to health insurance companies is bad policy, and it’s wrong for Minnesotans who are footing the bill,” said Dan McGrath, executive director of TakeAction Minnesota, “The MinnesotaCare Buy-In proposal would bring costs down and open provider choices. Reinsurance doesn’t promise any of that, which is why we’re calling for a veto.”

Organizations including TakeAction Minnesota, the Minnesota Nurses Association, Land Stewardship Project, Minnesota Doctors for Health Equity, and ISAIAH are calling on Governor Dayton to veto reinsurance and to continue pushing for the MinnesotaCare Buy-In.
