TakeAction Minnesota’s political program trains and elects bold, progressive candidates who are committed to people-centered governance. Together, we build governing power beyond Election Day, recognizing that the problems we face are bigger than one issue or election.

TakeAction Minnesota’s endorsement process is decided by our member-led political committee. Endorsements are voted on by our Leadership Assembly, TakeAction’s member-led governing body comprised of individuals from across our base and institutional partners, and approved by our Board of Directors.
TakeAction Minnesota’s candidate endorsement criteria includes:
- Will this candidate be a bold leader on our progressive vision for Minnesota? Does their life experience illustrate bold leadership on our vision?
- Does this candidate have a plan to build power by organizing people and organizing money?
- Is this candidate ready to co-govern with the progressive movement to implement our shared vision?
- Would you – a TakeAction Minnesota leader – be excited about supporting this candidate with your time and money?
2020 Presidential Race Endorsement Process
Our member-led endorsement comes after a five month process engaging in the presidential primary with our national affiliates People’s Action and CPD Action. TakeAction Minnesota’s Leadership Assembly – our governing body made up of individual member-leaders and representatives from our institutional members – decided how we would engage in the presidential election. They voted to endorse in the presidential election after traveling to Iowa for the People’s Presidential Forum, surveying our broader membership, and speaking directly with candidates and their campaign representatives. There was agreement across the Leadership Assembly to endorse in the presidential race. An endorsement was made with an overwhelming majority of votes on the first ballot.
