Emergency Teach-In at the Capitol

Sign up to join us online or in-person for this emergency action!

Over the course of the legislative session, Minnesotans have been courageously sharing their stories and making clear demands about what we need to live lives of joy:
-100% Clean Energy
-A health care system that centers people, not profits
-Paid time to care
-Dignity and safety at work
-The right to vote

While the MN House has acted in support of these priorities, the Senate GOP majority has acted to actively ignore or harm our families. We are an abundant state and there is enough for all of us, when everyone pays their fair share.

We have a choice. We can go down the old path, or we can write a new story that’s about our lives and the hope we have for this state, whether we’re white, Black, brown, or Indigenous. We can listen to powerful corporate interest groups or we can listen to people and communities.

Justice 4 All Member Meeting

At TakeAction Minnesota, we believe in a democracy where everyone is in, no one is out. No exceptions. That’s why we’re organizing to restore voting rights to 52,000+ Minnesotans who cannot vote because of their criminal background. They are impacted by the same laws just as you and I. They are our loved ones, our friends, our neighbors, and more. When we restore voting rights to them, we are restoring the voice, dignity, and respect that our system has stripped from them.

Join us for an evening where Justice 4 All (J4A) members come together to bring real stories and real conversations about our criminal justice system and restoring voting rights to the table. Legislators will be present. Light appetizers will be provided.

Save the date for TakeAction Minnesota’s Lobby Day!

We believe in a politics grounded in joy, collective liberation, and co-governance. And that’s a future worth celebrating. Join us on February 28 and put into practice the politics we want to build. Our Party at the People’s House isn’t your typical lobby day. But we’ll be doing more than that. We’ll be taking up space, sharing our stories, and demonstrating what joyful, courageous, and powerful action looks like. Share your collective vision for health care for all, paid time to care, and criminal justice reform—and the real stories that ground you in these fights. Take action with us. Party at the People’s House and let’s win the policies our communities deserve.

We will follow-up with participants in the coming weeks with details, including schedule and location. Lunch will be provided. Contact Sabrina Mauritz at sabrina@takeactionminnesota.org for more information about accessibility and other concerns.

We’re fighting for this people-centered agenda:

TakeAction Minnesota Statement on SOS Steve Simon’s Investing in Democracy Agenda

It’s time to restore the vote for over 50,000 Minnesotans

St. Paul, MN—Today, Secretary of State Steve Simon released his legislative priorities that include restoring voting rights and automatic voter registration. TakeAction Minnesota released the following statement:

“As Minnesotans, we value participation, fairness, and inclusion. But we still have Jim Crow-era voting laws. It’s no accident that 50,000 Minnesotans have been locked out of our democracy. There’s nothing to be gained from silencing tens of thousands of voices. In 2019, we can change this. It’s time for Minnesota to join 14 other states that have restored voting rights to people living and working in the community. We share the Secretary’s vision for our democracy and call on the legislature to restore the vote this session.

A. Yang from St. Paul, a leader with TakeAction’s Justice 4 All program stated:

“Every voice matters. Every vote counts. If we restore the vote, then a lot will be different. Our democracy will have more voices. You get to hear more sides of the story. I’m glad our secretary of state is fighting to restore the vote.”Continue reading »

The first part of this meeting will be a training on how to build power with legislators. The second half will be breakout sessions on the three legislative priorities. Join us to learn, ask questions, and grow your own community leadership skills.

Building Power with Your Legislators Training:

Win the Day: Volume 10 (The Day After)

When we started Win The Day, we knew we’d need to play some defense.  (See our recent post after the anti-Semitic violence in Pittsburgh.)  But we also knew we’d need to go on the offense.  And while there is much celebrate after last night’s elections, there is even more work to do.  How we do that, who we talk with, who we center, what language we use -- that’s what our narrative work is focused on.

St. Cloud Candidate Forum on Care Issues

The Central Minnesota Cares Campaign is hosting a candidate forum at the Tech High School Auditorium with local house candidates from House Districts 14A, Tama Theis and Aric Putnam, and 14B, Dan Wolgamott, as well as Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District candidates, Tom Emmer and Ian Todd.

Over the last several months groups with the MN Cares Campaign have had hundreds of conversations with families in Central Minnesota and found that, across the political spectrum, voters in St. Cloud are struggling with issues of family care and urgently want politicians to put forth bold solutions. Though many conversations, this is what we found:

The struggles that Central Minnesotans are facing around care intersects with many issues affecting our state, from affordable housing, education, and transportation, to mass incarceration and immigration. Come engage with these candidates’ vision to address the care crisis facing Minnesota families. … Continue reading »
