SCOTUS Temporary Stay on Clean Power Plan Hinders Solution to Most Urgent Crisis of Our Time
St. Paul, MN – TakeAction Minnesota’s Executive Director, Dan McGrath, released the following statement following the Supreme Court’s decision to issue a temporary stay on the Clean Power Plan which would put in place the first limits to carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants:
“Once again the Supreme Court of the United States has chosen to assist big corporations in undermining the basic rights of people in our country. In this case, hindering our right to clean air and an environment protected for future generations. Through the undue influence of big energy, the SCOTUS decision places the immediate profits of big corporations ahead of the health of our people and the protection of our planet’s natural resources.
“The good news is the temporary stay is just that – temporary. The climate crisis is the most urgent crisis of our time yet SCOTUS has decided to delay the ability of our nation to shift to a clean energy economy that works for the health of our people and planet. And they’ve done this by risking our air and water at the behest of dirty energy companies.
“What is certain is that people and organizations committed to this crucial clean energy transition must continue to organize together for an economy that works for all of us. Future generations are depending on us.”
