Amanda grew up in Fargo, ND, although her roots come from Mexico and Nicaragua. She was introduced to community organizing at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and was told being an organizer is like being a professional revolutionary. She was sold.
Amanda has experienced organizing in a variety of settings: with Latinx communities in Minnesota, at Catholic churches, and in Central America. She started at TakeAction Minnesota as a Health Care Organizer in 2014, building our health care leaders organizing skills and leading field on two campaigns to save MinnesotaCare. In 2016, as Deputy Organizing Director, Amanda built a new organizing team and worked with them to develop new ways to engage and talk with voters and volunteers.
Now, as Organizing Director, Amanda is leading our organizing team to build a multiracial, statewide base. Amanda is passionate about leadership development, including political education and base-building, as the pathway within organizing that makes opportunities for our base greater than the sum of their parts, building the breadth and depth we need to win bold change and become a more just and inclusive state.
