Jamila Mame joined the TakeAction Minnesota team in June 2019. She is originally from Ethiopia and moved to Minnesota as a teenager. She attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she majored in Political Science and Psychology. Post-graduation, she moved back to St. Paul, Minnesota, working as an organizer for the DFL and then for Mary Anne Quiroz’ campaign for St. Paul city council.

Through her work, Jamila brings people from different backgrounds – socioeconomic status, language, religion, gender and sexual orientation – together to work towards a common cause. She believes the collective power of a community is a powerful tool for improving the quality of life for all who live there.

Jamila hopes to create space where Women of Color can be in community with one another to heal and work toward their liberation collectively. As a black, Muslim, immigrant woman, she understands what it means to be underrepresented in one’s city, state, and country. She aspires to support women in their path to healing and imagining collective power in order to liberate ourselves. She aims to create a community where women of color can be vulnerable enough to talk about their trauma or joy, finding courage through their shared experiences. 

Her goal is to make sure that no voice is left unheard.
