Towards Health Care for All
TakeAction Minnesota is dedicated to achieving simple, affordable, and universal health care through public health insurance programs. We do this by organizing communities at the grassroots level across the state.
We believe in people-centered health care.
- We believe in a Minnesota where everyone can get the care they need, including mental health and reproductive care.
- We believe that simple, affordable, universal health care is possible and that the pathway forward is through public health insurance.
- We believe in care worker justice for women, people of color, and immigrants who provide the majority of care in our state.
- We believe our health care system should be governed by and accountable to the people of Minnesota, not hospitals, HMOs, or providers.
Minnesota made the most of the Affordable Care Act by expanding Medicaid and MinnesotaCare. At TakeAction Minnesota, we are committed to building on this progress to achieve a truly universal health care system for our state. Whether at the state or national level, we need to create a public health care option for everyone, regardless of age, income, or immigration status. All individuals and small businesses should be allowed to purchase health insurance through MinnesotaCare instead of being forced into the expensive, volatile, private health insurance market.
For over 10 years, we have organized with Minnesotans across our state to build the power we need to make real changes in our health care system. That’s how we removed unfair barriers to MinnesotaCare and got coverage for 20,000 more kids. It’s how we helped save General Assistance Medical Care and won better benefits, more stable coverage, and billions in federal health care funding for 100,000 Minnesotans. It’s how we won back $30 million dollars for the state of Minnesota from UCare and real reforms in how the state does business with HMOs for our public health programs.
